Physical Environment

Landscape

The dunes in the vicinity of Merimbula Beach outfall consist of Tertiary gravel, sand, sandstone, clay and lignite (Bega Geological Series Sheet SJ 55-4). At the northern end of Merimbula Beach is Merimbula Point and at the southern end of the beach is the township of Pambula Beach and the entrance to Pambula Lake.

Bathymetry & Substrate

The outlet consists of a 400 mm diameter pipe with a T-section of 350mm diameter. The pipe discharges at the front dune approximately 40m from the ocean at low tide and 1.5m above the sand, although at high tide the upper water level appears to come close to (but below) the outfall.  A number of artificial rocks have been placed underneath the pipe outlet.
